What is body fat percentage?
Body fat percentage is the proportion of your total body weight that comes from fat tissue. Unlike BMI — which only uses height and weight — body fat percentage gives you a much more accurate picture of your body composition and overall health.
Why does it matter?
Body fat percentage is one of the best indicators of fitness level and metabolic health. Two people can weigh exactly the same but have very different body compositions. Tracking body fat over time tells you whether you’re losing fat, gaining muscle, or both.

How is it calculated?
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy circumference method — one of the most accessible and widely used formulas that doesn’t require calipers or lab equipment. It uses your neck, waist, and hip (women only) measurements alongside your height to estimate body fat percentage.
Measurement tips — Measure your waist at the narrowest point (navel level), your neck just below the larynx, and for women, your hips at the widest point. Stand straight, breathe normally, and measure in the morning for consistency.
